Chapter 1.9 - To Love and To Lose

A few months had passed since Bonnie's birthday. Amber had decided that it would be best for Bonnie if she had regular contact with her father, so she arranged for Ayden to look after her while she was at work. This worked out well as he would be able to spend the evening and the night with his daughter, which suited his nocturnal habits. Bonnie was growing up so fast, she had learned to walk and was just starting to learn to talk. Amber was so proud of her little girl, and her relationship with Ayden wasn't too bad either. The two of them had been spending time together when Amber got home from work, they would sit and watch TV together and chat about whatever was on her mind. She had definitely judged Ayden all wrong, she was so angry about the way he revealed his vampirism, but as he pointed out, she refused to meet up with him so how else was he supposed to tell her? He explained that he had only proposed marriage because he was brought up to believe having a child out o...

Chapter 1.8 - Human?

Amber hadn't stopped worrying about Bonnie since that call from Ayden. She wondered whether she should invite him over sooner than Bonnie's birthday to see if he could tell whether she was a vampire or not. She decided against it, Ayden had told her that the signs would only reveal themselves as she grew older so Amber waited impatiently for Bonnie's birthday. "Hi Ayden, I just wanted to make sure you were going to be here today." Yes, I will be there. Have you thought about what you want to do if she's like me? "I don't know...if she is a vampire, I don't know how to raise her...I'll need help." So would we be living together? Because there is always a place for you in my home. "Yes, I suppose that would mean we would have to live together." You sound like that's the worst scenario ever, do you not want us to be a family, do you not want us to live together? "No...I don't want to, but if it's what...

Chapter 1.7 - My Bonnie Girl

Amber was slowly adjusting to life as a single mother. Luckily she had some maternity leave left so she could spend all day with her little bundle of joy. It wasn't as hard as she had expected, but it was still by no means easy, but she was determined to stay as independent as possible. She thought about writing home to tell her parents about the new addition to the family, but it wouldn't have made a difference, after being banished nothing would ever get them to allow her back into the family. Even if she was allowed back, Amber was sure she would be happier in Moonlight Falls. "Oh Bonnie!" Amber said, lifting her daughter above her head "My Bonnie girl." This tiny person had brought meaning to her life, given her a reason to keep on trying in life. A reason to work harder, be more successful and really establish a foundation in this town. Amber might not have wanted to settle down with Ayden, but that doesn't mean she couldn't provide a great...

Chapter 1.6 - A New Arrival

Amber had been very busy preparing for the arrival of her baby. She had been going to pre-natal classes, where she often felt completely alienated by these lovey-dovey couples doting over the woman's swollen tummy, talking about all the things they were enjoying about the pregnancy, all the things they were looking forward to when the baby was born, how perfect their darling unborn babies are. Amber felt like they were just dreaming that everything was going to be perfect, nobody's life is that perfect. She just focused on herself, trying to ignore the midwife's instructions that involved "Now, Daddies, help the Mummy....". Amber was going to do this alone. She didn't want any of this silly, lovey-dovey, eyes-glazed-over, "togetherness". Not with Ayden anyway. Amber sighed as she signed the cheques to pay off the bills. This was the last of her money, maternity leave wasn't giving her much in the way of money (she should have been promoted ...

Chapter 1.5 - Preparation

Amber had spent ages preparing everything for the baby's arrival. But no amount of preparation seemed like it was enough. And it wasn't just the baby she had to deal with. Ayden wanted to be involved in the baby's life. Amber felt that after finding out she was carrying his child, she could no longer reasonably ignore his calls. He was trying to be in her life, but she still didn't want to see him. Maybe once she had the baby she would feel differently, but she wasn't about to accept his help now, not after he made his thoughts so clear on her current way of life. "Ayden!" Amber shouted through clenched teeth "You need to give me some space, you're stressing me out and that is no good for the baby." "His calls have been non-stop." Amber thought, "It seems like he really wants to be in my life." She was getting tired of the phone calls to be honest, part of her was starting to think that if she just let him be par...
